Makita is a great value!
I have had several miter saws over the years -- Delta's and Porter Cable's. For the money you can't beat Makita. I used it to cut crown and base molding and was very impressed with the quality of the cuts with the stock blade as well as the precision of the mechanism. I took some time to tweak the factory setup to make it cut dead-on (always a good idea to check the setup before you start your project). I love the slow start feature -- makes it easy to get the blade when you want it on the piece without worrying about the jump of the start-up torque of other saws. This is a super fine quality saw. My only beef is that there was no place in my region (western Washington) where I could see the saw on display before buying it. However, with the ease of returns these days, I guess that comment is not relevant. I have built several projects over the few weeks I have had the saw and find it a god sent. It cuts clean, straight, and effortless. The bevel adjustments are quick and accurate. The sliding feature is sensational. Weather your cutting a 4x4 or a 1x12 piece, it responds with precision and power. This saw will last decades in my shop. Whatever your woodworking skill level may be, my recommendation is to buy this saw. Mount it on a portable miter saw stand or a permanent station in the shop.
