After breaking in drivers, sound is pleasant. Headphones are extremely comfortable without any need for replacement of pads or driver cushions(SURE 1540 pads will fit, and allow for larger/actual shape of human ears) other options are available as, only 1540s have been confirmed to fit thus far. Note: because cans and pads have an unnatural circle design, larger ears or ears that require more depth may want to look elsewhere. My ears fit perfectly, and for most people who have tried them on, they feel acceptable. Note: headphones do have some sound leakage, acceptable, but more than average for closed back design. Buying these comfortable, portable headphones is dependent on price point. Lastly, stock cables locking on to left can, not every cable will be compatible, recommend ... Overachieving, inexpensive headphones
The Marantz MPH-2's are one of at least 5 rebrands of a well regarded Chinese design, the ISK MDH9000. Of all these designs, I prefer the look and color scheme of the Marantz' (I own the nearly identical LyxPro HAS-30's, which sound identical but have 1-2 very minor cosmetic differences). These headphones are far better than their modest price would imply. They're very comfortable and have a balanced, competent, yet "fun" sound. The bass is really excellent, but is not hyped to the point it interferes with the midrange. The marantz MPH2 headphones are good utility headphones for monitoring in the studio. They are loud. They handle a lot of power without losing quality of sound. For a tracking situation I would recommend. Not so much for checking a mix or mixing. Probably good for a DJ too. Nice top end, almost bright compared to others. Very good low end and deep bass is represented properly. Compared to other headphones in this price range, the Marantz MPH2 are scooped in the midrange.
