Being an Alfred Hitchcock fan I purchased "Bate Motel" thinking it would be real time prequel to his iconic movie "Psycho" which took place in 1960. I'm also a fan of William Shakespeare and have seen many of his plays taking place in different cities and times in history. An example would be "Romeo and Juliet" set in modern day Los Angeles. The characters, the language, and the story don't change they just take place in a different era. "Bates Motel" takes place in current north coast California as Norma and Norman Bates purchase a motel to restart their lives once again. The motel has a history and the cast of characters surrounding the motel keep the storyline moving. The dynamic between mother and son is subtle yet has moments where you tell yourself, "now I understand why Norman became the person he was. The building blocks of the plot have your interest as you try to figure out which way the story will turn next. The first season ends with Norman and mother, Norma, both alive and well, let's say physically well. the emotional well being is another story. I have already forgiven the writers for not staging the series in 1950's as the story of Norman and Norma transcends any space in time. I recommend Season One and am looking forward to see where Season Two will take me.Read full review
If you're a fan like I'am, you must own the season. The show is a prequel to Psycho, it has Vera Farmiga as Norma Bates along with Freddie Highmore as Norman, not to mention his brother Dylan is played by Max Thieriot, the cast is great. Although only 10 episodes, this is the tyoe of show that makes you want more. After the first episode you're instantly driven into the madness and insanity that makes this show so great. It has a great fan base and is a must have for anybody. This is one of the best shows on television and THE ONLY GOOD SHOW ON A&E BESIDES THEIR NEW SERIES THOSE WHO KILL. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO ANYBODY.
When I saw the first trailer for Bates Motel I was immediately intrigued and couldn't wait to watch. I thought the idea of a prequel to Psycho in the format of a weekly television series was a really interesting one. I was right. From the first episode I was hooked. The show met and exceeded my expectations in every way. The story is Of course about the young Norman Bates, but it's also about so much more with each actor delivering outstanding performances. Definitely a must own!
The show Bates Motel is a great television series from beginning to end. The cast is superb and keep you wanting more!
