The Psion Series 5mx personal digital assistant is more than just a nifty gadget; this device is truly a marvel of consumer electronics engineering. The device is capable of connecting to the Internet and browsing the web. You can also use Linux on this device if you install a free software called Open Psion. The keyboard of the Psion Series 5mx is a major factor in its popularity. Its QWERTY keyboard is just like the keyboard on a computer, except smaller, so you can type very similarly to how you would on a computer; the keys sound and feel very similar. The screen displays in 16 shades of gray. You can use a stylus to draw on the screen, which is backlit. Excellent handheld computer
Pro. EPOC32 is an impressive OS for the 90s. It runs productivity software and you can install more applications and even write your own OPL programs. Java, Python, and Lua are available too. It is like a WinCE handheld PC of the 90s, but the keyboard, user interface and application switching is much better. Cons. The one important thing to watch out for is the screen and keyboard hinge mechanism, which should not be stressed too much (do not let the screen slap down hard, a friend of mine did that with my original Psion 5 and broke it). Misc. Avoid alkaline batteries that can leak, use NiMH. It can run Linux if you really don't want to use EPOC32.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
