This is a basic general purpose zoom lens. I ...like that it is 16mm at the wide end as that is 24 mm equivalent on my XM1. The lens mount is plastic and provides a snug fit. The auto focus works fine for my use. The lens is a featherweight so great for hiking and causal photo work. Happy with this purchase

Good: Lightweight and sharp and cheap. Bad: Slow f...ocusing on my X-E1 makes it unusable for sports or fast moving subjects. Relatively small maximum aperture makes it almost unusable for low-light shooting. This is a great lens for backpackers and landscape photographers. For others, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

While the XC series is supposed to be more entry level tha...n the XF series I have take some great pictures with this lens. It does not have a manual aperture ring, but you can control that with the camera. This lens has good contrast, sharp images, and responsive focusing. Although there are lenses more highly rated by the experts, I found this to be a versatile starter lens for starting out on the Fuji X cameras.

From a journeyman's point o...f view, assuming you want a powered zoom lens this one seems great for the money to me. My pictures and videos so far have turned out great, the two-speed zoom could be quieter but it's not too loud. In videos you can hear the motor some but it's not bad, and it also allows for dramatic smooth zoom in and outs on like faces while people talk while easily holding the camera stable which is fun. it also has a "manual"-ish ring you can use that allows you to zoom in steps, which can be useful if you want the exact same zoom, but it's a lot lurchier and a bit slower than an actual manual zoom. My only real caveat is if you're specifically looking for a zoom lens in the 16-50mm range that can zoom in and out completely silently and also really quickly get the non-powered version. This lens was also relatively cheap, and very light and small so it keeps your fuji pack small and light which makes it great for walking around a lot with and doing some street or cameo shots and videos (which is what I primarily use it for). I have a nikon d5300 as well and the size and weight difference between the two with a similar lens is quite noticeable.
